these days

not to sound too boastful or anything, but these days, people have been commenting, *ahem* "wow glenn! you're looking like you lost some weight!" and i try my best to not look too pleased, and say modestly, "really? thanks! but i think cos i'm wearing black lah" then i faster turn away before they see that huge grin i'm trying to conceal. because i know i lost weight! hehehehehe. damn it feels good!

but of course, in order to lose weight i had to keep my mind off food.

enter: the cathy. i love that place! it's got this nice vibe, especially at night. not too crowded, shops don't open too late.. it's a proper movie place if you get what i mean. the cinemas have spacious seats and if you get the couple seats you feel like you're sitting on a sofa. but you know what it lacks? macdonald's and a 24-hr cafe. then it'd be perfect.

and to show my love, i watched two more movies there. the orphanage and charlie bartlett.

this show has no good-looking stars, no big names, not so conventional. maybe that's why we were assigned a very small cinema and it wasn't even filled more than half. but it's good. i don't like crowds.

charlie bartlett belongs to the high school genre, but offers more. geek? check. bully? check. dysfunctional? check. punk rock music? check. not too many babes and hunks, but it has a lot of heart, and it has much more depth. it looks into the problems of kids now, what they face in school. more in the context of western schools, but still can related to.

everybody wants to fit in, but when you finally do, what next? do you define who you are, or just be another face in the crowd? it also touches on the struggles between parents and their kids. communication, single parenthood, unexpressed love. it's actually a bit like juno, raw and isn't shy to be unconventional. there are many laughs along the show that won't feel forced, from his depressed mother and bully turned friend.


the orphanage on the other hand, is crap - a huge load of crap. my resolution to never watch a horror flick again always crumbles, i don't know why. i held my breath way too many times, but wasn't scared enough. let's face it. how are you ever going to end a horror movie without the ending being,

1)stupid
2)over-done
3)unbelievable

well, chances are zero. and the orphanage exceeds most. it is all three, plus boring. definitely don't watch this one.

she was first introduced as iTunes free download of the week, for her title track love song. and since then i've been waiting so long, and her album's finally here! i bought it probably last week and it's so great! i've not been so excited about an album since i bought amy winehouse's.

the bucket list

also known as: the before you kick the bucket list

someone who hasn't seen the movie would say: two old farts trying to regain their youth

but in truth: it is a funny, heart-warming, witty, and sad movie. sure, it is a fairy-tale. but who cares? no one looks that good when they are terminally ill. and since growing old is painful, why not watch a movie that makes it seem so much more fun?

both actors are brilliant. it's like perfect casting. enjoy the hospital ward scenes, they are easy, relaxed and funny. it's been quite a while since i left a cinema smiling. i know donald trump's not going to be on the bed next to mine in tan tock seng hospital next time, but if he is, at least i know what i'm gonna do!

verdict: watch it! i'd give it 4/5

interesting sights

here's what i saw at zouk's mambo night yesterday:

1) one oversized couple eating each others' faces without a care in the world. not that i really mind, but it gets very disturbing when they lean on each other so much they almost tumble, and that lifting up each others' tops isn't very polite (my eyes!!) either!

2) one over enthusiastic guy who danced his way throughout the night. not sexy.

3) one male caucasian who grabbed the mic from the performer (from the upcoming musical We Will Rock You) and started singing and having spasms.

4) one girl who tried to hook up with this hunky guy, but i had this feeling that he was batting for the same team.

5) and finally, one very sorry group who didn't know any of the dance moves. (that's us by the way)

i got a ticket

and not just a normal one.. it's one that doesn't state how much the fine is, and worse, it's issued by the traffic police! oh my god i feel like shit now. but it's not like i want one what!!! i normally obey traffic rules.. but the parking at prinsep street really sucks. every time no lots then how? dan managed to find a lot, so of course i die die have to park somewhere, no?

and now i got this huge ticket and may even get points deducted!!! =(

so suay!! argh!
